Image via WikipediaPresidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda made the clarification at the press briefing in Malacañang on Monday that the issuance of "transport Smartcards" would'nt be released this week but on the first week of May.
“The procurement and the bidding out of the cards are being done right now. So by May 1 or 2, lalabas po ang Smartcards, said Lacierda.
A Smart Card looks just like a plastic “credit card” with a computer chip and an antenna coil embedded within the card. This antenna allows it to communicate with an external antenna at the transaction point to transfer information.Such Smart Cards are used when transactions must be processed quickly, as in mass-transit toll collection or wherever the cardholder is in motion at the moment of the transaction.This time, Smartcards will be used for fuel discounts.
